The Land without Color by Benjamin Ellefson
Floating into the air with an enormous gum bubble, Alvin lands in a strange world where everything is gray. The trees, the flowers, the dirt, the sky, the animals, and even the people are all missing their color.
Confronted with the mystery of the missing color, Alvin teams up with some unexpected friends to battle man-eating plants, outsmart the bumbling Crimson Guards, cross the Sugar Desert, overcome the two-headed dragon, and find the color-stealing goblins to restore color to the kingdom.
Kids and adults alike will love this whimsical tale in the tradition of The Phantom Tollbooth, The Wizard of Oz, and A Wrinkle In Time.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I watched the documentary the Secret of Oz, which is all about the symbolism within the Wizard of Oz book. It was then that the idea of a boy blowing a huge bubble gum bubble and floating away into a magical land popped into my head. Once I started writting down ideas, they kept flowing.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Each character in The Land without Color is an amalgamation of different influences. Some of childhood friends I grew up with. Others are traits for my favorite characters in literature. And others are current politcal and culture figures in society. I'll leave it to the reader to see if they can recognize any of the characters in the book in real life.
