What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I remember, about 25 years ago, asking my best friend to tell me a bedtime story over the phone. We were both already full-blown adults, as I was in my early twenties and she was in her early thirties. At that moment, the “Ladybug and the Ant” story was born.
To celebrate and honor our friendship, I decided to finally put down to paper the beautiful story that she had related to me late at night, so many moons ago.
I added a few details of my own. I proceeded to paint and draw all the different illustrations that were to be included in the book. Then, I positioned the illustrations and text together, adding some computerized details.
In November 2017, I officially published the first version of the book in memory of my best friend’s passing. Our friendship was truly one of a kind and filled with laughter. The ladybug and the Ant is a true representation of the kind of friendship that I once had with my very own BFF.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
The Ladybug represents my best friend, and I am the Ant.
We encouraged each other to be and do whatever we’d put our mind to, but most importantly, we shared so much laughter.
We also helped each other surpass our limits.

The following day, the two new friends spent the day together again, in the field of wildflowers. Peechooka marveled at Coco’s graceful and flexible flying.
Peechooka: – Oh! You're so lucky, Coco, to fly like that. I wish I could do like the butterflies. I would love to go fast and twirl around like you. But I can’t because I have no wings. Every day, I have to walk and climb everywhere with my six legs in search of food to carry back home.
Coco: – Oh, no! You're the lucky one, Peechooka: you have a family, but I'm all alone. I always dreamed of having a big family like yours and feel surrounded by love.
Peechooka: – This is sad; you must feel so alone! But I have an idea! Would you like to come and live with my family and me?
Coco: – Oh, yes!!! What a good idea. We could play all the time and gather food together! But I also have an idea! Would you like to climb on my back and fly with me?
Peechooka: – Yes ! Yes! Yes!
